Where Were The Deficit Protesters Under Bush?

This weekend, conservatives showed up on The Mall in DC to protest Obama and the exploding deficit. We certainly share their concern, and recognize that a lot of our readers do, too.

Conservatives are noting how unprecedented this is, that Americans would actually show up to protest something like the national debt.

But we still haven't gotten a good answer to the question: Where were all these protesters during the Bush administration when we spent heavily on two wars, a new prescription drugs benefit, while also cutting taxes?

This isn't a judgment on any of these actions -- were just wondering, why the sudden outrage of deficits?

The answer is obvious, of course. The outrage is partisan, and the result of specific frustrations with current spending plans (healthcare, stimulus, etc.). The deficit is just a convenient thing to attack.

Still, (and this has been said before) if conservative activists had held their leaders to the same standard in the past, the party may not be as deep in the wilderness as it is today.

They were out there. Why do you think President Bush's polling numbers were miniscule? To get to the 20s in job performance you have to eat through a lot of conservative support. Here in the Midwest people were quite mad about the government paying for drugs that President Bush supported and then again at the bailouts last year. The writer is probably in New York and it is tough to figure out what is going on outside of New York when your field glasses are a rolled up copy of the New York Times whose job it is to keep you from knowing that people can get upset at government spending. Much coverage on last Saturday's demonstration in the Times? They were at home watching their Home-based ATM's go up in value. Now with a BLACK president and their home based ATM's in the gutter there is a problem. Remember this is based almost completely on RACE. This was a white mob that protested.
